The defects are like burn scar over the face, giant nevus or any alopecia scar over the scalp where we need to expand hair bearing areas. So this is done in two stages. So first stage we open up the skin next to the adjacent to the defect and place the implant the silicon implant and also place the port and then we wait for it to heal. Once the wound has healed we go on injecting fluid into the port so that the silicon expander goes on expanding and it expands the skin. Once it reaches a certain desired extent we do the second stage of surgery where we remove the implant and use the expanded skin to cover the defect. The advantage of this surgery is that the skin color match. Since we are using the adjacent skin the color matches better and aesthetic appearance is better. The risks what we can see is in these surgeries are like infection, implant rejection and implant projection.
