Gilad Barakan - Preludes for Piano Composed in Boston, MA | 2017 Performed and recorded by Eleana Baskouta in Athens, Greece | 2017 BIOS Gilad Barakan has established himself as a prominent figure within a new generation of guitar players. At 20, shortly after moving to LA from Jerusalem, he attended Musicians Institute and won the prestigious 'Outstanding Player Award' (awarded once a year to one musician by the great Scott Henderson). The same year he also won 2nd place at the Stanley Clarke competition. While studying at Berklee College of Music, he met Spanish producer Javier Limón (Paco de Lucía, Mariza, Buika) and appeared on a few of his albums, most recently on rising Venezuelan star (and 19' Latin Grammy best new artist) Nella’s debut album ‘Voy’ . Gilad serves as her musical director, plays guitar and often arranges Limón’s music. Eleana is a classically trained pianist, originally from Greece. She holds a B.A. in Ethnography & Cultural Anthropology from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Classical Piano Performance Degree from Kodaly Conservatory, obtained in 2012. She is a highly skilled pianist, having won the 1st Prize and Praise at the 17th Greek National Piano Competition organized by the UNESCO & Piraeus "Youth Choir and Orchestra" in 2003 and having attended Piano Master Seminars with renowned soloists such as Gergely Boganyi and France Glidat. In 2017 she conducted ethnographic field research on shamanism and music within the Achuar and Shuar indigenous communities in the Pastaza region of Ecuador and her published thesis can be found at the Library of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens: https://pergamos.lib.uoa.gr/uoa/dl/ob.... Lastly, Eleana worked as an Ethnomusicology Educator at the Museum of Greek Folk Instruments where she conducted the educational program for schools visiting the museum
