Most Common Type Of Nerve Injury After Knee Replacement Surgery

Nerve injury inevitably happens during a knee replacement surgery. The most common type is a severed saphenous nerve since it must be cut to access the inside of the knee joint where the surgeon has to do their work. Specifically, the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve that runs under the knee cap and across the front of the knee joint is injured. The hope is that the nerve will recover and be normal after surgery, but that rarely happens. Most people have lingering minor problems and some have more serious problems that affect them daily.
