Autobianchi Y10 / Lancia Y10 – The last of its kind

Today, I’m going to tell a story about the almost forgotten Italian premium super-mini car – the Autobianchi Y10, also known as the Lancia Y10 produced from 1985 to 1996 by Autobianchi company, which was a part of the Fiat Group. It was built on a shortened base of the Fiat Panda, but the Y10 had a completely different body, softer suspension, and a better interior. The car was developed and offered “for select and elite users” – wealthy women drivers. It was rather successful: even pessimistic sources name a rather significant quantity of cars sold – 850 thousand, but maybe it was twice that number. The Y10 was obviously a tiny car, but it was well-thought inside with good ergonomics and internal space arrangement that allowed it to get the maximum result from the small internal space and make the driver and passengers feel really comfortable despite the size of the vehicle. The car was well accepted by its target audience because it provided good comfort, great maneuverability in cities, and, actually, very decent performance. It was just a good city car with benefits.
