Sheriff Grady Judd administered the oath of office to 11 new Detention Deputies, and two new Deputy Sheriffs during this ceremony at the Sheriff's Operations Center in Winter Haven. Welcome to the green team, Deputies Anderson, Boles, Brooks, Chasse, Figueroa, Molero, Outlaw, Sommers, Stewart, Surrency, Valdovinos, Droemann, and Mineo! He also promoted several supervisors: Retired PCSO Sergeant Matt Beebe has spent 31 years so far serving the people of Polk County. He’s also a U.S. Marine. He was promoted to the Supervisor of our Warrants/Crime Information Center Unit. Mr. Beebe has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida. Ms. Kayla Sullivan joined PCSO in 2020 working in Human Resources. She has a Bachelor’s degree in communications and a Master’s degree in public relations. She was promoted to the Benefits supervisor in Human Resources. Sergeant Curtis Eldridge was hired as a deputy sheriff in 2006, and became a property crimes detective in 2011. He then transferred to the Agricultural Crimes Unit where he has spent the last 10 years. He was born and raised right here in Lakeland, and has a Bachelor’s degree from Warner University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Sergeant Angelica Jimenez hails from Puerto Rico and became a PCSO deputy sheriff in 2012. She also has a Bachelor’s degree from Warner University. She spent 6 years as a school resource deputy and the last 1.5 years as a property crimes detectives. Lt. Walmsley was born in Connecticut and later moved to Polk County. He was hired by the PCSO as a deputy sheriff in 2011. He has experience in nearly every area of law enforcement, including community oriented policing, investigations, robbery, and homicide, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2020. He’s been a supervisor within the Traffic Unit since 2021. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern University and a Master’s degree from Warner University. Captain Gilbert comes to us from Missouri, where his twin brother is also a law enforcement officer. Captain Gilbert was hired in 1998 as a deputy sheriff, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. As a Sergeant, he supervised patrol, and the robbery and homicide units. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2014, and has been supervising within the Southeast District (Lake Wales area) since that time. He will now be the Commander of that District as its Captain. Capt. Gilbert has a Bachelor’s degree from Saint Leo University and a Master’s degree from the University of Louisville. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute. Major Garcia was born in Ohio and later moved to Polk County. She became a PCSO deputy sheriff in 2011, and spent several years working in investigations. In 2010, she was promoted to Sergeant where she also supervised investigators. Just three years later she became a Lieutenant, in both patrol and investigations. In 2018 she was promoted to the rank of Captain, and commanded three different districts: the Southeast, Southwest, and Northwest. Since 2019, she’s been assigned to the Professional Development Division, where she collaborates with the Polk State College law enforcement academy staff, and was integral to the development of Polk County’s first police command school, the National Public Safety Innovation Academy (NIA). Major Garcia has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Warner University and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, as well as the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police.
