Marine Protection with Global Park Defense

Help save our world's oceans. Support ‪@globalconservation7140‬ in the fight to stop illegal poaching, blast fishing, and protect the last endangered coral reefs on our planet. Jeff Morgan, Executive Director of Global Conservation, is interviewed in Santa Cruz, California where he explains the process of protecting Marine Protected Areas, or MPAs. Marine Protection with Global Park Defense visits MPAs around the world. The use of Marine Monitor radar systems is demonstrated by Brendan Tougher of the Anthropocene Institute's Protected Seas organization. The arrest of the owner of the Electra, which was aided by marine radar, is summarized by Sgt. Nick Scoggins in Encinitas, California. The Electra is a commercial fishing boat that was poaching inside the Swami's MPA on the California coast. The M2 Marine Monitor system is shown in use in Ecuador, Palau, Mexico and California. NGOs including Pronatura Noroeste, WildAid, Protected Seas, WildCoast, CONANP, Baja Coastal Institute, and Global Conservation all participate in this production. The interviews in this short film were all conducted where marine protection is being practiced. California interviews filmed by W.J. McKay who also produced and narrated this production. About us Global Conservation is dedicated to safeguarding our planet's most vital and endangered wilderness areas as wild spaces face unprecedented threats. With poaching, logging, mining, land clearing, and human encroachment on the rise, these pristine habitats are rapidly disappearing. Over the next decade, human activity is projected to consume half of the remaining intact wildlife habitats, endangering iconic species like tigers, primates, bears, lions, elephants, and rhinos. Protected areas are becoming the last refuges for wildlife in developing nations. As the sole nature conservation organization focused solely on directly funding park protection systems for national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites in developing countries, Global Conservation prioritizes the preservation of these critical ecosystems. We work hand in hand with local and indigenous communities, empowering them as the first line of defense for their ancestral lands. Our flagship program, Global Park Defense, aims to extend "No Cut, No Kill" protection to 25 parks worldwide by 2025. Together with our partners and supporters, we strive to ensure the long-term survival of our planet's most precious natural treasures.
