Kyrgyzstan’s president Sadyr Japarov has moved to dismantle the tandem model that concentrated power in the security services. By removing Kamchybek Tashiev and purging his network, Sadyr Japarov is consolidating power ahead of the 2027 election. The State Committee for National Security, or GKNB, has been cut down and fragmented to prevent any future security chief from rivaling the presidency. Parliament has been rebalanced, and neighboring countries have signaled relief at the prospect of predictability.
