This is the second episode of in-house test lab building series which explains how many and which devices to choose for your lab. In the previous video, we explained why you would consider building an in-house testing lab. Now it’s time to discuss how many devices you need. The key principle in real device testing is, naturally, to use the same real devices that the users in your target market are using. Today the number of device variants, OS versions, resolutions and form factors is huge. Making it impossible to keep up with the device fragmentation! For instance, if you are focusing on the US market and would like to cover 50% of the android market you will need about 60 devices. About 20% of US market coverage can be reached with 12 devices. Take a look at deviceatlas.com or gs.statcounter to get reliable statistics and find the most popular devices in your market. Once your lab is up and running you need to think about how often you will add new devices to keep your market coverage. For iOS devices, it’s simple as you only need to add a few devices when Apple announces new models, but on Android, you need to check every quarter what are the latest blockbusters and add those to your lab. You already know the reasons why you should build an in-house lab and how many devices you need to have. Keep watching our lab-building series and you will find out about the infrastructure of the lab. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you missed the first video from the series "How to Build an In-House Testing Lab", watch it here: https://hubs.ly/H0jRF2T0 If you want to know more, read the blog post- https://hubs.ly/H0jRFpP0 Subscribe to our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/BitbarMobile...
