The 'Christmas Church' of Grosmont - Saint Nicholas Church This unique church, located in the village of Grosmont, almost just opposite the street from the imposing ruin of Grosmont Castle. The church was once dubbed a 'Mini Cathedral' to signify its importance in the medieval town of Grosmont before the castle was ruined and the town declined in importance. From the outside it looks like a typical church but it is very unique in that unlike most Welsh churches, this one has its original roof intact with the beams being verified to date back to the 1200's. The church is really a place of two halves with the Nave being empty though retaining the 13th century style pillars and various artefects including a knight's memorial and tomb. The Chancel was built later and is also a partial 18th century restoration. Within this section it resembles more of a typical church. Inside the chancel can be found various artefacts from different times of the villages history and an audio storyboard that further explains the history of the village.
