This is a quick tutorial that shows how easy is to make a solar powered water fountain to use inside a bird aviary. The sound and the flowing of the water encourage the birds to bath, and in the hot season is a great enrichment for the birds. Just keep in mind that the solar panel must be placed totally in the sun! It doesn’t work if you don’t even direct sunlight. What you need: -The solar powered pump (you can buy a cheap one online). It comes with many tops that you can change, so you can decide how you want the water to flow. A bowl: a plastic one or even better one made of stainless steel or aluminum. Keep in mind that the bowl should be large enough so that the water sprayed doesn’t go outside of the bowl. A few tips: If the water goes outside the bowl and you don’t have space for a larger container you can use a tube instead of the tops given with the pump, so the pump sprays the water down (like I did in the video). I used a stainless steel tube, but a plastic one can work too if the birds don’t chew it. You can decorate the bowl with rocks to encourage the parrots to go inside it. Be careful to cover the cable! I used a stainless steel tube as a cover so the lovebirds won’t chew the cable.
