Mount Moka via the Thomson gorge | A gentle 4WD adventure in a Land Rover Defender

The outer rim of Central Otago is riddled with high country passes. 4WD roads that wind their way along the mountains edge to a low saddle, allowing quick and easy passage to the other side. Thomson gorge does just this and is a great little short-cut to take with your 4WD on your next overland adventure. The gentle hill climb from either side is easy enough for any 4WD'er and rig. The side route off towards Mount Moka does add an extra grade to the trail, but is still perfectly accessible through the drier times. The steep loose climb will present some amazing views at the top and give you that feeling of a true adventurer.
