Syria Introduces New Currency Bills One Year After Assad Fall

MetroTV, Syria has officially begun circulating new currency bills, one year after the fall of former president Bashar Assad, as the crisis-hit country works to revive its economy. The Central Bank said the exchange of old Syrian pounds for the new banknotes started Saturday after months of preparation. Crowds gathered outside exchange offices in Damascus to swap old notes for the new designs, which replace Assad’s image with Syrian flora and fauna.
