In this video, we’ll explore the basic steps to configure Layer 2 VPNs over an MPLS infrastructure using Ethernet VPN (EVPN). MPLS is a versatile technology capable of transporting various types of traffic, including both Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols. In our previous video, we demonstrated how to set up a point-to-point VPN using AToM (Any Transport over MPLS) to encapsulate Ethernet frames—a technique also known as Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS). While EoMPLS provides a reliable point-to-point solution, it has a notable limitation: it doesn’t support multipoint connectivity. EVPN addresses this challenge by enabling multipoint Layer 2 communication over an MPLS network.
