Entering the lateral capsule over the anterior boarder of the greater trochanter, the structures that are best visualized from this area include the anterior acetabulum wall and the anterior labrum. Entering the lateral capsule of the posterior boarder of the greater trochanter, the posterior lateral portal offers the best field of view of the posterior portions of the joint including the posterior acetabular wall and the posterior laburm. The anterior portal is provides a distinctly different perspective. The lateral labrum and the relationship of the lateral two portals are best appreciated in this position. The arthroscope can be readily changed between the various positions. The acetabular fossa including the ligamentum teres cased in synovial folds can be seen from all three portals with a different perspective from each.
