1. The British sent troops to Boston in 1768 because colonists were protesting new taxes like the Townshend Acts. Britain wanted soldiers there to keep order and make sure the laws were enforced. 2. The colonists made the situation worse by crowding around the soldiers, yelling insults, and throwing snowballs and other objects at them. According to the article and eyewitness accounts, the tension kept building until everything got out of control. 3. The eyewitness testimony makes the event harder to fully understand because people described it differently. Some said the soldiers shot without being told to, while others said the crowd was aggressive and threatening. It shows that people saw the same event in different ways. 4. Most of the soldiers were acquitted because the jury believed there wasn’t enough proof that they meant to kill anyone. Testimony suggested they felt surrounded and threatened, so the jury may have thought they acted in self-defense. 5. Paul Revere’s engraving made the soldiers look like they were calmly and deliberately shooting innocent colonists. It was much more dramatic and one-sided than the eyewitness testimony, which described confusion and chaos. His image helped turn public opinion against the British. 6. Propaganda is powerful during times of tension because people are already emotional. Images or stories that make one side look completely right and the other completely wrong can strongly influence how people think and react.
