In this video Steven Blomer joins me to discuss a misconception about the murder of Elizabeth Stride, which took place in Berner Street on the 30th of September, 1888. At 12.45 that morning Israel Schwartz was walking in a southerly direction along Berner Street, when he noticed a broad shouldered man walking ahead. As Schwartz watched, the man approached a woman who was standing in a gateway known as Dutfield's Yard, and commenced attacking her. Schwartz crossed over the road to avoid what he thought was a domestic argument, and, as he did so, he noticed another man standing in a beer shop doorway lighting his pipe. Somebody then called out, "Lipski", and "pipe man", as he his now often known, seemed to follow Schwarz. This led a recent Facebook poster on the Jack the Ripper Facebook page to observe that Lipski had seen Kosminski attacking Elizabeth Stride. Steve Blomer, a moderator on said page, agreed to discuss the post with me, and together we explore the truth about what actually happened in Berner Street that morning.
