The aircraft was the pride of the Russian fleet, a fully automated Airbus, newly arrived from France. The captain and co-pilot had the plane running on autopilot when they invited the teenagers to take turns “flying” the state-of-the-art aircraft. First, the captain’s daughter took the control column and then his son. Soon after the son sat down, the plane began banking steeply – even though the autopilot was still on. While the crew struggled desperately to figure out what was wrong, the situation went from bad to worse. The plane began turning more and more steeply, sharply increasing the G-forces throughout the jet. Then started falling from the sky in a wild corkscrew spin. The son was trapped in the pilot’s position. Eventually, the captain managed to get back into his seat but it was too late. While he pulled the plane out of its spin, it had fallen too far, and crashed into the snowy mountains of Siberia. Everyone on board was killed.
