It begs the question - what is the difference between a pole and whip. Let's explain... Fishing whips were invented by match anglers to catch fish quickly. No elastic, no reels to get tangled, and no landing net needed. The idea being that you can simply whip or flick out a light rig and return it to the hand very quickly, using a solid flick tip and a rig that is just a few inches shorter than the total length of the whip. It used to be easily defined as the above, but the tackle trade and rise of carp filled commercial lakes has caused the definition to become increasingly vague, which isn't helpful at all.
