In Revenge of the Sith, we watched Anakin Skywalker fall. He turned against the Jedi, pledged himself to Darth Sidious, and became Darth Vader, the galaxy’s most feared villain. His turn destroyed the Jedi Order, shattered the Republic, and unleashed the Empire. But what if it never happened? What if Master Yoda, the wisest of the Jedi, had been there to intervene at the critical moment? What if he had stopped Anakin before he fell to the dark side? The entire galaxy’s history would change. And in this version of the story, that’s exactly what happens. Let’s begin. The war had reached its boiling point. Coruscant was scarred from invasion, the Jedi Council was exhausted, and Anakin was more torn than ever. He was haunted by visions of Padmé dying, visions that clawed at his sanity. The Jedi’s mistrust weighed heavily on him. And in those shadows, Sidious waited. In the Council chamber, Mace Windu spoke of the Wookiee campaign. “Master Yoda, it is critical we send aid to Kashyyyk.” Normally, Yoda would have gone himself. But this time, he paused. In the Force, he felt it, a storm swirling around Anakin. Darkness waiting to strike. He stroked his chin and shook his head. “Arrangements I shall make. Another shall go.” Obi-Wan glanced at him, surprised. Anakin noticed too. A seed of doubt formed. Did Yoda mistrust him so much that he refused to leave the capital? As the Council dismissed, Anakin walked the halls with Obi-Wan. His master explained the truth: his appointment to the Council had been made not out of respect, but to spy on the Chancellor. It only deepened the wound. When Anakin left, his heart boiled with betrayal. He walked into the Chancellor’s office, expecting comfort, and he found it. Sidious welcomed him with a warm smile, sensing his turmoil. They spoke of Padmé, of the Jedi’s hypocrisy, of fear and love. Slowly, the Chancellor’s hand rested on his shoulder. “I can help you save her, Anakin… but not as a Jedi.” The moment teetered on a knife’s edge. In the original story, Anakin gave in. But this time, he didn’t walk alone. The Chancellor leaned closer, whispering of power over death. Anakin’s fists tightened. He wanted to believe, but something held him back. And then the door slid open. Yoda stepped inside. His cane tapped the marble floor. His eyes, sharp and sorrowful, met Anakin’s. “Leave us, you must,” Yoda said to Palpatine. The Chancellor’s smile twitched, but he obeyed, retreating into the shadows of his office. Yoda turned to the young Jedi. “Much fear I sense in you, Skywalker. Of Padmé, you dream. But clouded, these visions are.” Anakin’s voice cracked. “They’re not just dreams, Master. I’ve seen her die. I can’t lose her. Not after everything I’ve lost.” “Lose her, you will not,” Yoda said firmly. “The future, always in motion. Trust in the Force, you must. Trust in yourself.” Anakin’s breath trembled. “The Council doesn’t trust me. Obi-Wan doesn’t. None of you do.” Yoda set aside his cane and stepped closer. His small hand reached for Anakin’s arm. “Trust, we have lacked. A failure, that is. Wrong, we were. But faith in you, I have. The Chosen One, you are. Save us, you will.” The words pierced through the fog. For the first time, Anakin didn’t feel dismissed. He didn’t feel alone. He felt seen. And in that moment, the bond that Sidious had tried to weave snapped. Palpatine returned with his hood drawn. “Master Yoda, you interfere where you do not belong.” His voice twisted into a growl. “Anakin, he fears you. The Jedi will destroy you. They already plot against me. Against us.” Anakin stood between them, his mind racing. His hand hovered near his lightsaber. Both men called to him, one with promises, one with trust. Palpatine extended his hand. “Only I can save Padmé.” Yoda’s voice cut through like thunder. “Lie, he tells. Manipulate, he does. Care for you, he does not. Only power, he seeks.” Anakin’s chest heaved. Then, slowly, he ignited his saber. But he turned, not toward Yoda. Toward the Chancellor. “You’re the Sith Lord,” Anakin said, his voice shaking. “The one we’ve been hunting all this time.” Sidious’s smile collapsed. His crimson blade snapped to life. “Then it is treason.” The office exploded with light and sound. Sidious lunged forward, lightning crackling from his hands. Yoda met it head-on, absorbing the storm with his blade, his body trembling from the force. Anakin leapt beside him, striking out with furious precision. Together, Master and student pressed the attack. Sidious was a storm, faster and deadlier than any opponent Anakin had ever faced. He whirled through the air, crimson blade flashing, laughter echoing across the chamber. He hurled desks, shattered windows, and unleashed waves of lightning. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif #anakinskywalker #yoda
