Williams and Ruth Robeson rush to get their son, Will, to safety. They witness violence and destruction on their way to safety. This clip is from the episode, "It's Summer and We're Running Out of Ice." This clip can be used to teach about the Tulsa Race Massacre, or the Tulsa Race Riot, of 1921, in which groups of armed white residents attacked black residents and businesses of the Greenwood District. At the time, the Greenwood District was commercially successful, affluent, and predominantly comprised of African-American communities, hence it being dubbed the "Black Wall Street." As the clip depicts, the riots left many businesses destroyed and many residents wounded or killed. At the conclusion of the events, the only option for many Greenwood residents was to leave.
