Coastal states are expected to map their waters up to their EEZ, primarily for safety of navigation, marine conservation and risk mitigation; but we all know that it requires a lot of resources and not all countries can keep up with the high demand of mapping the seafloor. This session highlights four (4) speakers representing different aspects and roles in getting our seafloor mapped. TCARTA's President Kyle Goodrich will talk about how bathymetry derived from multispectral/hyperspectral satellite images (Satellite-Derived Bathymetry) plays a crucial role in filing the gaps on very shallow waters, and their current technology that was developed under their NSF grant. Victor Vescovo, a deep ocean explorer and the first person to complete the Five Deeps Expedition, will share some of his remarkable diving expeditions that was greatly supported by seafloor mapping, and what the scientific community gains from it. Kim Picard, Chair of the AusSeabed Steering Committee, will talk about the continuous progress of AusSeabed and it's way forward to better serve the community. Stuart Caie of Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand will talk about the Pacific Regional Navigation Initiative, and how this recently concluded project/initiative made a difference in the Pacific island nations' economic and scientific growth brought by assurance on safety of navigation and perception on development.z Bonus: Nicole Trenholm will be sharing about the project Go-Marie, its technical details and strategic collaborations for the success of the project.
