Sky News host Peta Credin says the Victorian government's decision to sign up to Beijing's Belt and Road initiative is one of the biggest issues "I have seen dealt with" by government and its implications should "worry a lot of people tonight". "I don't say this lightly, in the whole time I've been sitting here on Sky News, I think this is the biggest issue I have seen dealt with by a state government or a federal government, clothed in a lot of secrecy that should worry people tonight," Ms Credlin said. On Thursday the Victorian government’s links to Beijing were questioned by the federal government amid Australia’s trade tensions with China. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton raised concerns over the state’s involvement in China’s Belt and Road initiative. "Victoria needs to explain why it is the only state in the country that has entered into this agreement," he said. While the Andrews government has been dodging questions about whether any of the state's $24 billion coronavirus rescue package would be borrowed from China. Ms Credlin spoke of the issue with Liberal MP Richard Riordan who said "my concern is the one I think all Victorians have". "The government just won't fess up where they're getting the money from," he said. Image: Getty
