Latter-day Saint beliefs about angels differ from mainstream Christianity on several key points - and not just where wings are concerned. In this episode, David gives an overview of the physical and spiritual nature of God's heavenly messengers. Revelation 4 describes some beings that seem like a composite of cherubs and seraphs (and with similar roles), but the chapter does not specifically call them by those names (they are not named at all). These are the creatures (Rev. 4) that are described as figurative in Doctrine and Covenants 77. D&C 77 also does not specifically namem them, but because the Revelation 4 descriptions are so similar to the descriptions of cherubs and seraphs, it seems safe to conclude that cherubs and (probably also) seraphs are likely the creatures being described in Rev. 4, and are figurative representations. See the resources above for additional information on these terms. — Latter-day Saints also believe that there is a hierarchy of authority among angels. Some angels are termed “archangels,” who have more authority than others. Doctrine and Covenants 27 teaches that the archangel Michael is the post-mortal, resurrected Adam (as in Adam and Eve). —How did “cherubs'' evolve from winged sphinx-like creatures to the winged babies we see today? BYU professor John Gee talks about it here: https://bit.ly/42o7ReM — The Hebrew word translated as “angel” is mal’ach. You’ll notice the similarity here to the name of the Old Testament prophet, Malachi. Malachi means “God’s messenger” or “messenger from God.” An “angel,” so to speak.
