This time, Mark Angelo SG. Mendoza, our Video Editor and social media Director switched role by being the host of this SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY EPISODE recorded in Rome, Italy! He interviewed Fr. Rector. Mark: It’s been a year since you’ve started ‘The Word of the Lord,’ it will be good to review why were you doing this? Fr. Rector: “I am filled with joy…this is my personal effort or work in the work of evangelization using a social media platform…There are people who had been long absent in the church, and this is my own way of reaching out to them…” Mark: Other well-known people are already doing the same thing that you are doing, and their respective channels are more popular, what is new that you have to offer? Fr. Rector: “I benefit from listening from well known cardinals, bishops, priests who are present in the social media platforms. I continue to offer my own reflection and sharing about God’s Word not to compete…but to offer myself as an addition to what is existing out there. Besides, the work of evangelization is not a one person’s job alone but it’s the mission of every baptized…” “The unique thing though that this channel had offered this past year is the privilege and blessing of interviewing different people from varied walks of life…the teachings from the Catechism of the Catholic Church inserted in every episode, that too is unique being offered by this channel…” Mark: In your own view what has been the fruits of this YouTube channel? Fr. Rector: “…it brought delight to my heart that even a little child will recognize our effort…with this YouTube channel I get to know people and their faith journey; that’s a blessing. I was able to reach out to people even beyond our cathedral parish, that also is a blessing. I have personally felt more prepared and confident in preaching God’s Word during Sunday Masses…I was able to use the gift of technology and social media, that it too can be beneficial if its use appropriately.” Mark: What challenges have you encountered in producing videos? Fr. Rector: “First, I view those challenges more as another opportunity to learn than a discouragement…I had experienced being turned down by people because they are not comfortable on camera or they just simply have personal reasons for not agreeing. The technical aspect of it. At first, together with small group of people in making this happen, it was challenging to see what work and what doesn’t work. Now, I can confidently say my technical team have mastered the production and publishing of it, in which I am truly grateful…I have learned time management even better.” Mark: What do you envision for this channel moving forward? Fr. Rector: “The Word of God is living and active, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. I envision for this channel to continue even with a change of format. I acknowledged that this span of attention of people is getting shorter and shorter, and so, we want to meet them where they are. So, moving forward, we will be producing or creating more short videos. We will also explore the possibility of podcasting. The interview portion will be more of a seasonal basis when we produce special editions. Ultimately, my desire for this channel is to continue so that there is an avenue for myself and my social media followers to read God’s Word together, reflect on it and allow ourselves to be transformed by what we have received.” Mark: For you Father, what’s the most memorable interview so far? Fr. Rector: “Every interview is unique. Every interview is special. It is a privilege to be able to hear people’s stories and that they trust me with those stories and our listeners…But there are three instances which I will classify as memorable for me: (1) when I get the chance to interview my own mother. It is special because it doesn’t happen everyday; (2) when we go out of the streets of Quezon City and Metro Manila and simply asked people as to how do they get to know Jesus and what is their relationship with him.’ (3) the different couples who have shared their faith stories…” Mark: Any last words, Father. Fr. Rector: “I am grateful of the many people including priests, parishioners who have been part of this past year’s episodes of THE WORD OF THE LORD. Thanks for joining me in reflecting God’s Word and for seeing the relevance of it in our lives. Thanks to my technical team and my video editor, without them producing and publishing videos wouldn’t be possible. Of course, thanks to all my subscribers and followers. I hope that you are constantly being led to deepen your understanding of God’s Word and are transformed by your reading and listening of God’s Word. Once again, thank you for the support that we have reached this ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE WORD OF THE LORD. God bless us as we observed this Holy Year of Jubilee 2025!
