Post-rain trail riding at Hollister Hills SVRA with my son. After weeks of heavy rain, the park took some serious damage — landslides, fallen trees, deep mud puddles, and washed-out sections everywhere. The Renz riding area was closed due to conditions, so we explored other parts of the park instead. Today’s route: Lower Field → Back Springs → Back Ridge → Sandstone → Middle Field What was supposed to be a relaxed family trail ride quickly turned into a technical mud adventure. Bikes in this ride: • KTM 300 XC-W TPI (2-stroke) • Honda CRF125F Big Wheel (4-stroke) Along the way we dealt with: • Mud puddles and stuck bikes • Trail damage from heavy rain • Downed trees blocking the trail • Unpredictable traction • A tough hill climb attempt on Volunteer Trail Rain riding forces better throttle control, line choice, and momentum management. Sometimes the slow, messy days are the best training days. Nothing beats sharing these rides with my son. Mud everywhere. Big smiles. Worth it.
