We can largely separate pilots into two groups: proactive and reactive. Proactive pilots know what is going to happen before it does. This allows them to pre-emptively apply appropriate flight control inputs and decisions in a given situation. Reactive pilots wait until the instruments show an undesired aircraft state and then respond to correct. Being proactive gives you the ability to apply smooth control inputs, makes you more efficient in most aspects, better operational safety, and overall more aware of the situation. Aerodynamic knowledge gives us the ability to be proactive pilots.
