OneWire (http://www.onewire.com/videos) interviews David Pakman, Partner at Venrock Associates, in the latest installment to the Open Door video series with Skiddy von Stade. "The best part about VC is that you get to partner with entrepreneurs who know way more than you do about [different] areas, but you get to context switch between them...and that's been the most fun." After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Computer Science Engineering, David Pakman went to work for Apple in 1991. While at Apple, he co-created Apple’s Music Group and led the company’s foray into the music business. A few years later, he took a job at N2K Entertainment, where he served as the Director of Business Development and later Vice President. In 1999, he co-founded one of the first digital music lockers, MyPlay with former Apple coworker Doug Camplejohn. After the company was sold to Bertelsmann’s Ecommerce Group, David acted as Bertelsmann’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Public Policy before moving over to the private equity firm, Dimensional Associates, in 2003. When the firm bought eMusic in 2005, he served as CEO of the company and grew it to the world’s leading digital retailer of independent music. In 2008, he joined Venrock Associates, a venture capital firm focused on early stage internet and digital media companies. OneWire New York, New York http://www.onewire.com
