Fresh from the trails, here’s my unvarnished account of tackling the Camino Portugués coastal route in just 12 determined days—from Porto’s bustling riverside to the grand cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. This 280km journey hugs Portugal’s Atlantic shores before veering inland onto the Central route. Blending endless sandy beaches with eucalyptus-scented paths through fishing villages and medieval hamlets. I set off from Porto at the end of the season. A must if you want a little alone time. The towns become busy and more vibrant. the Albergues are more frequent. This is due to the fact that the route now takes on all those who have travelled the central route meeting up with those on the coastal path and those who are starting their pilgrimage at the last 100k. Finally reaching your reason for doing this walk. The Grand Cathedral in Santiago. This is a feast for the eyes, and a marvel of architecture unmatched. A fitting end to a wonderful experience.
