The Clinton administration too. Emma: He's a senior or was a senior advisor in the sole political appointee on the state department's legal team. Sam: Yeah I think was at the DOJ when they did the targeted assassination program. he let me just get pulled up here. Emma: He was the state department legal advisor from 2009 to 2013. Sam: Okay when they decided not to go after the torturers in the Bush administration this guy didn't quit. You didn't quit during you know the targeted killing that they developed under the Obama administration. However, he has announced that he is leaving his role in the Biden administration sending an internal memo criticizing the president's use of title 42. Started by Donald Trump during the pandemic. It is ostensibly a ruling issued by the CDC. That it is too dangerous to allow immigrants into this country. And it denies them their statutory right it's not just their statutory right it's the statutory obligation of the US government to provide them a process in which their claim for refugee status or temporary protected status for that matter is adjudicated. So these people we've seen it most recently with Haitian immigrants. Their country has been devastated by disasters. The wake of two like an earthquake and a hurricane and then the disaster of a political assassination where their president was was killed assassinated. On top of which they're one of the poorest countries well certainly in the western hemisphere. And you know we've gone into the history of the United States making sure that that was the case. But nevertheless, title 42 doesn't even allow for deportation. It's just immediate expulsion. And co said that title 42 was illegal that it was inhumane and it was not worthy of this administration that I so strongly support. quote “I believe this administration's current implication implementation the title 42 authority continues to violate our legal obligation not to expel or return individuals who fear persecution death or torture. especially migrants fleeing from Haiti.” He added that lawful more humane alternatives plainly exist. This is a big deal this is a second person to resign from the Biden administration over what we're doing specifically with Haitian immigrants. This year the Biden administration has had set a record for the number of refugees that have been admitted into this country. It is not a record-high number. It is a record low number of refugees. And let's be clear this is not just a democratic problem you had the republicans in the senate the other day try and pass an amendment that wanted to curtail assistance to Afghan refugees in this country. I mean I the Biden administration's calculation on this is that they don't get any political benefit from helping Haitian immigrants or refugees or immigrants broadly speaking. Emma: Very scared of the abc border panel for example. Sam: And they're so afraid and it is again completely myopic you’re not vying for the votes of people who are going to be pissed about the number of Haitian immigrants that you led into this country. You're not vying for them and the media that they consume is already saying that you're in favor of opening you have an opinion so it doesn't it literally matters zilch.
