Mumbai Metro Slab Collapse: Engineer Suspended, ₹5 Crore Fine Slapped on Contractor | India Today

The Maharashtra government has taken decisive action following a tragic slab collapse on the Mumbai Metro bridge along Mulund's LBS Marg. Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve has been suspended for negligence after investigations revealed a lack of proper supervision at the construction site. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered stringent punitive measures, resulting in a ₹5 crore fine for the construction firm Milan Infra and a ₹1 crore fine for the project consultant Louis Berger. Local MLA Mihir Kotecha noted that only labourers were present during the slab placement, with no engineers on-site to oversee the work. To support the victims, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced a compensation of ₹15 lakh for the families of the deceased.
