This Field Notes episode follows a weekend in the East Kootenays, where we led our very first Know Your Sprinter course, in partnership with John Brindell, CEO at Agile Offroad. More than just a driving course, it was a backcountry gathering. From steep switchbacks to pond crossings, we pushed both Sprinters and captains outside their comfort zones — learning how to winch, change a tire on a fully-equipped van, cross a deep crevasse, and navigate steep, technical terrain with confidence. But the weekend wasn’t all grit and mud. We shared margaritas on taco night under the stars, feasted on roadside meals from camp chef extraordinaire Carlin Frimmel, and laughed through late-night experiments that turned s’mores into a full-blown cookie taste test (maple crème, Fig Newtons, and more). Clients collaborated on the ultimate Know Your Sprinter playlist, half the camp crawled into the Gear Bus™ pop-top for a mini party, and mornings were slow and sweet with coffee in the mountains.
