On November 29th at 4:00 PM exactly, the busiest part of Suva city shut down for five minutes. The police halted the traffic in front of the Suva city bus stand, as 60 young people and 10 police officers rushed into the middle of the road to perform a flash mob to call for ending violence against children in particular school based violence. The flash mob brought together over 60 young people from across multiple schools in Fiji. It was performed at 4pm on Friday 29th of November in front of the Suva City Bus Stand. The bus stand was chosen as a significant location because of recent student fights that have happened there. The flash mob narrative starts with a group of students breaking out into a mock fight, which was intercepted by police force members, which turned into a flash mob. The purpose this flash mob was to raise awareness around anti-school-based violence initiatives. This flash mob is part of the on-going End Violence against Children campaign and 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence. UNICEF Pacific worked with UNICEF Youth Mediactivists and the Fiji Police to put together a flash mob to support and encourage engagement in a youth-led Anti-School-Based Violence Campaign.
