Susie Johns shows you how to draw a Pirate Treasure Map, using pen and ink. There are also techniques and tips for 'distressing' the map and making it look like an antique. The activity is designed for adults, as some of the distressing techniques involve matches. Be very careful when burning paper! To take part in this activity you will need drawing ink (Winsor & Newton is used in the demonstration) in one or two shades of brown, a dip pen with a flexible nib, a couple of pencils, an eraser, a couple of soft paintbrushes, a large ruler, a compass (or something for drawing circles), a large piece of cartridge paper and a piece of layout paper (or scrap paper); also a length of ribbon (optional). To finish the map, you will need some beeswax polish and a soft cloth. Susie Johns is an artists and author; she also teaches regular drawing and painting classes and specialises in teaching beginners how to draw.
