Dissentience did not just drop an EP. They built a monster movie in four parts. In this interview, I caught up with Connor Valentin of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania progressive death thrash force Dissentience to break down their brand new concept EP Kaiju, released February 20. We dive into: • The high school brotherhood that built the band • Writing Kaiju fully together in one room for the first time • Moving beyond what Connor calls “riff salad” • The four act monster film structure of the EP • Swedish death metal influence and Black Breath energy • Lovecraftian horror and leaving the monster unnamed • The DIY ethos behind the physical release • Working with Corey Pierce, Zeuss and Alan Douches • Bringing the monster to the stage This is not just a death thrash EP. It is a cinematic concept release built on intent, atmosphere and brotherhood. If you are into progressive death metal, thrash metal, technical riffing and heavy music with purpose, this one is for you. Kaiju is out now.
