In 1962, a Latin organist at a Miami supper club recorded this song — and the American Federation of Organists was NOT pleased. Edmundo Silva had been the resident Hammond B-3 player at Copa Azul Records' flagship supper club on Miami Beach since 1952. He was, by every account, the finest organist on the entire East Coast circuit — Havana to Caracas, they said. This single was recorded in the summer of 1962 and entered regional radio rotation that October. The American Federation of Organists' Regional Ethics Committee filed a formal grievance in March 1963, citing "the debasement of the Hammond B-3 as an instrument of serious musical study." Copa Azul Records recalled the pressing without comment. Silva was removed from the supper club's regular roster. He was replaced by a pianist. Nobody ever said the pianist was better. Tell us in the comments what you think this song is really about. -- LYRICS -- Come take a seat beside me, I have saved it just for you The Copa Azul is quiet now, the crowd has thinned to few I've played this organ every night for going on ten years or more But playing alone, mi amor, it brings me close to tears They say my touch is legendary from Havana to Caracas But what good is talent, darling, if I play it all for practice? So lean in close, move your hands where mine are resting now — Put your hands on my organ, and I'll show you how Put your hands on my organ Feel it come alive Put your hands on my organ Baby, feel it rise Every single key is waiting For your tender touch tonight Put your hands on my organ, darling — Everything's all right I know it may seem daunting — it's a great deal to take on But I promise, give it time, and it won't be long before the music comes I'll put your left hand on the lower manual — that's where the thunder lives The right hand on the upper keys — that's where she really sings And your feet on all the pedals, yes, the ones down on the floor — Keep pressing slow and steady, baby, and give it more From Havana to Caracas, they have called for me by name But without someone beside me — darling, nothing feels the same Put your hands on my organ Feel it come alive Put your hands on my organ Baby, feel it rise Every single key is waiting For your tender touch tonight Put your hands on my organ, darling — Everything's all right Some musicians are particular about who they share the bench with I don't mind confessing, I'm the same — don't call it a myth This organ has seen better days, it needs a careful hand Someone patient, someone willing — baby, you understand Put your hands on my organ Feel it come alive Put your hands on my organ Baby, feel it rise Every single key is waiting For your tender touch tonight Put your hands on my organ, darling — (Don't stop now, mi amor...) (Sí, sí, sí...) Everything's... all right... #hiddenrecord #lostrecords #bannedrecords #latinlounge #vinylrecords
