On Saturday 18 May 2019, a large-scale emergency drill was organized at Brussels Airport to test and evaluate the response of our airport emergency services in the event of an incident. The organizers of the drill always cook up a pretty complex scenario to allow for the training of a multitude of disciplines and the involvement of all sorts of emergency and rescue services. This year’s scenario: a collision between an aircraft and a bus causing the plane to catch fire and requiring a rapid evacuation of the passengers. In this fictitious scenario there were several casualties, played by life-size dolls. Other passengers were stuck inside the aircraft/bus and had to be freed. This type of drill is organised every two years, as required by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and as described in the Specific Emergency Response Plan.
