It was not Gandhi or Ambedkar who started the movement to eradicate untouchability, but Savarkar. While he gave an intellectual narrative to Hindutva, he remained a nastika (wrongly translated as atheist) in the Dharmic tradition. First man to start Hindu reform movement, movement against untouchability, movement for militarisation of Hindu youth (that eventually enabled India to keep half of Bengal and Punjab), his meeting with Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Subhas Bose, inspiring Bose to escape, opposing Congress when it assented to its acceptance of Cripps' Mission's clause of secession, Savarkar was a great modern who was well ahead of his times.
