The Phantom of the Opera Live on Broadway May 3, 2014 (Evening Performance) Starring: Hugh Panaro (Phantom - FINAL PERFORMANCE), Mary Michael Patterson (Christine), Jeremy Hays (Raoul) Hugh Panaro is a very popular Phantom, and for good reason. Through the years Hugh was given the freedom to explore and experiment with the character, giving a different and unique performance every night depending on how he felt. Fans loved his portrayal, which he credits to his studying of the Susan Kay "Phantom" novel, and he will go down as a Phantom legend for sure. And his credits with the show are incredible, he first played Raoul in 1991, returned as the Phantom for a brief stint in 1999, returned from 2003-2005, then was the Phantom again from 2010-2014 with just one brief break in summer 2013. Although it's not confirmed, he likely played the role roughly 2,000 or so times by the end of his run in 2014. This is a lovely video of his final performance as The Phantom.
