Introducing Belgrave Community Allotment and Garden - 5 min version with subtitles

Etheline Deer and her team of volunteers run the Belgrave Community Allotment and Garden in the heart of the Belgrave district of Tamworth. A tiny strip of disused land, nestled between the fire station and a primary school, the garden is a haven for wildlife and a refuge for people from all walks of life. Many different community groups are supported by the garden including local schools where children come to learn about the natural production of food through the 'Ground to Table' project. BCAG has been made possible through the support of many different public and private organisations and it will continue to serve the local community long into the future. BCAG is a role model for sustainability. No chemical products are used, the garden produces its own compost and natural planting techniques are used to deter wildlife from eating the fruits and vegetables whilst other plants are used to attract and nurture daytime and nighttime pollinators. Rainwater is harvested from the roof of the school next door and fed around the garden by gravity or by solar irrigation pumps. Multiple compost bins are placed around the garden to make it easy for volunteers to recycle garden waste and use it to feed next year's plants. Grass borders, bug hotels and a pond all provide valuable refuges for wildlife to support the sustainable ecosystem of the garden. The garden produces an incredible array of fruits, vegetables and herbs, all of which are enjoyed by the local community. v2
