Today's video was recorded a few weeks ago as part 1 in a subject with the intent to make a followup or a part 2. This video goes over some details of my compost bins and that I am trying to improve the heat/warmth retention of my bins. Winter is here and with me working, I only have a few days per week to tend to my compost project. As a result my compost break down has slowed to a crawl and I am trying to come up with ways to fix that. After a few recent very cold days of 40-55 (F) degree weather, my compost piles have dropped in temperature to 75-90 (F) which is below the activity threshold for the natural bacteria to do its thing and break down the materials efficiently. Technically, everything will always breakdown over time but if you want materials to compost faster then you need them to maintain a warmer/hotter temperature. This video showcases my attempt to block the wind from blowing cold air right thru the front of the bins there by keeping the compost piles just a little warmer. thank you for watching.
