Overview: 2 Teams consisting of a group of 4 Players in each of the middle marked channels and a group of 3 End Zone players at either end of the pitch. Area needs to be marked suitably for players age and ability levels. The area needs to be wide enough to create space for penetrative passes through spaces in between players. Emphasis is on the attacking team to play forward into the end zone players and break the defensive line to score in the goals. The team that score keep possession of the ball which is restarted by the coach inputting the ball. If the defensive team intercept the forward pass, they become the attacking team going the opposite way. Coaching Points: Vision & Awareness: Constantly scanning and playing with eyes/head up allows the player on the ball to make an informed decision as to whether they can play forward into the end zone. Without players doing this they will not be able to recognise a space to play a forward pass through to break the lines. This vision and awareness is supported by the players in the end zone movement to create angles to allow forward pass. 1&2 Touch Combination Play: It is really important when the attacking team are in possession they move the ball quickly by using 1 & 2 Touch. This enables the team in possession to stretch the defensive unit in front them creating gaps in between players. Playing 1 & 2 Touch gives the defensive unit less time to adjust their shape and close the gaps in between them. One touch passing can be very effective in breaking the lines as its quick and unexpected. Use of Body Weight to Disguise Pass: When the defensive unit is in good shape with small distances between each player it can be hard to play forward with a penetrating pass. One way to unlock this and create a small amount of space is to use the eyes and body weight to disguise the direction of the pass. Shaping the body in one direction with the eyes will move the defensive unit across slightly to create space as they are anticipating that pass. This slight change of body shape allows the forward pass in the opposite direction to the body shape. Patience to Probe: If the opposing defensive unit are in good shape and well organised it is crucial the team in possession don’t look to force the pass which will allow the opposition to counter in the opposite direction. Instead the team in possession should look to keep the ball by circulating 1 &2 Touch using the width of the marked area. Players in the end zone need to move with the ball which will alter the defending players position to stop the forward pass. When the space occurs to play through, the player in possession should pass with good weight to make sure defending team don’t have a chance to intercept. Progression; Players in the end zone can drop into the zone in front to cause some disruption to the defensive unit. Team in possession can use this player to bounce off with a wall pass to create space for the pass to break the lines. Even better the end zone player will drop in and receive on the half turn to dribble or pass into the end zone to score. How to make it easier: Make the channels wider which will give the defending team more distance to cover physically and more space to deny. PDF 📄 - https://footballdna.co.uk/wp-content/...
