The history of Adalaj Vav is deeply poignant, woven with a tragic tale of love and loss. Constructed in 1499 by Queen Rudadevi, wife of Veer Singh, the chief of the Vaghela dynasty, the stepwell was built in memory of her husband. According to legend, in the 15th century, Rana Veer Singh ruled over the region then known as Dandai Desh. Due to frequent water shortages and reliance on rain, he ordered the construction of a large and deep well. However, before its completion, the region was attacked by Mohammed Begda, and Veer Singh was killed. Begda desired to marry the Queen, who agreed on the condition that he first complete the stepwell. Once the construction was nearly finished, the queen performed Parikrama of the stepwell in prayer, then leaped into it to join her husband. The stepwell features three entrances leading to a platform supported by 16 pillars. These stairway entrances converge underground, where the platform has an octagonal top, with shrines carved into each corner of the 16 platforms. The five-floor-deep well showcases intricate carvings of various subjects, including women churning butter and adorning themselves before a mirror. Historically, the stepwell provided shelter to pilgrims and traders, while villagers would gather to fill water and offer prayers. Architectural and archaeological experts suggest that the octagonal ceiling allows minimal air or sunlight into the stepwell, maintaining a cooler temperature inside compared to the outside. The intricate carvings and unique design make Adalaj Stepwell a must-visit tourist destination in Gujarat. 🚨HELP US REACH 50K SUBSCRIBERS🚨 SUBSCRIBE! ✔ Click / @travelingamericandesis Then hit the BELL ICON so you don't miss any single video 🔴 Production & Direction: Neelesh Jethwa Storytelling & Logistics: Pragya Saiwal Join our Whatsapp Channel - https://www.whatsapp.com/channel/0029...
