Way of the Cross: Jesus' last steps, in Jerusalem

Do you know the origin of the Way of the Cross? Together with some professors from the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum we discover the biblical, historical and archaeological elements of this devotion. Every day in Jerusalem, pilgrims from all over the world walk the Via Dolorosa to contemplate the mystery of Christ's Passion. The current layout of the Way of the Cross has its roots in the ancient tradition of the Church of Jerusalem, although this devotion has evolved more in the West. The earliest account is that of the pilgrim Egeria, who tells of participating in a procession from the Mount of Olives to the Holy Sepulcher on the evening of Maundy Thursday. The number and sequence of stations were gradually fixed from the 16th century onward, undergoing numerous modifications until the route we know today was achieved.
