Over one million adults in the United States have adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), a condition that occurs when the heart or related blood vessels do not develop properly before or at birth. In this video, Ami Bhatt, MD, co-director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital Corrigan Minehan Heart Center, talks about what ACHD is and the road to surgery if needed. She also discusses the symptoms ACHD patients can experience and should look out for. Bhatt points out that while identifying and treating congenital heart disease in the pediatric population is very important, there are actually more adult cases than cases of children and it's vital that adults with congenital heart disease receive the ongoing support and care they need, especially during life events like pregnancy, family planning, exercise/fitness plans, etc. For more information about the Mass General ACHD Program, visit: http://www.massgeneral.org/heartcente....
