Sign petition: https://tinyurl.com/34p85hd7 Please join our email list at https://saveouredgware.org/mailing-list/ The degeneration of Edgware Central Edgware has been designated by the Mayor of London and Barnet Council for MAJOR redevelopment, so much so that, as currently proposed, the sheer density will make the site occupied by the shopping centre THE MOST DENSELY POPULATED DEVELOPMENT IN THE UK. The Council decided that because Edgware Town Centre benefits from good bus and tube links, it is suitable for major high-density development and have approved in principle, buildings of up to 29 storeys tall. If this goes ahead, all the shops in the Broadwalk Centre, and the car park would be swept away. Whilst a new Sainsburys is proposed this will have only 250 (underground) car parking spaces which is not sufficient for a full-sized superstore, let alone all the new shops and restaurants that the developers claim they propose. The Concerns • 10 years of construction and disruption • The suburban character of Edgware will be lost forever, and instead replaced with a mini-Manhattan • Insufficient local services (School, GP Surgeries etc) which may not cope with demand. • Increased traffic and congestion on roads that are already choked with traffic. • An increase in litter, crime and anti-social behaviour. • Overcrowded tubes and buses • Damage to the Watling nature reserve. • A very real risk that existing shops on Station Road will suffer by being deprived of car parking and many may go bust.
