Exclusive | China tennis star Peng Shuai denies sexual assault claim; email to WTA by her own wishes

[ENG SUB] Peng Shuai responds for the first time regarding her allegation of sexual assaults. In an exclusive interview with Lianhe Zaobao on Sunday (19th December), Peng said she had never accused anyone of sexually assaulting her and that her Weibo social media post published last November had been misunderstood. In a brief interview on the sidelines of the International Ski Federation's cross-country skiing competition (China City Tour) in Shanghai, she said: "First and foremost, I must emphasize : I have never said or wrote about anyone sexually assaulting me. That’s a very important point”. Peng continued, “On the Weibo post, that's my personal issue. I know there are many misunderstandings but there is no distorted interpretation.” When asked about the email to WTA chief Steve Simon, Peng stated that the original email in Chinese was written by her according to her own wishes and CGTN’s English-translated version is “not different from the one I wrote to Mr Simon personally”. #zaobaosg #PengShuai
