Last weekend, I played an open mic show here in Portland. I've done plenty of performances before with acoustic instruments, but this was the first time I've flied my modular synthesizer freak flag. I didn't record the actual performance, but I did record a few live takes at home for practice and analysis, and this was the best of the lot. It was also pretty close to what I actually played. The patch isn't too complicated: basically, a single 7-note sequence is running the entire Moog system, going out of the Mother-32 and driving the other synths, while itself being modified in all kinds of ways by the Subharmonicon and DFAM. All of this is going into Ableton Live, where Ableton Echo, Valhalla Reverb and Lossy (the Chase Bliss/Goodhertz pedal, on loan) are lurking at the end of chain. The Arturia MIDI controller on the left is controlling those effects, plus a Granulator III drone in Ableton that comes in and out during transitions. On the mastering chain, LTL's Silver Bullet is doing its magical thing. Overall, I had a really good time working on this piece, and I'm really happy with how it turned out live. I hope to do more of it soon. Thanks for listening!
