If you have some dried (or fresh) Birch Polypore (Fomitopsis betulina) mushrooms it is very easy to make tea. Your body can't really digest these mushrooms very well, so the health benefits are greatly increased by making tea, rather than eating them. Make tea: 1. Boil some water in a small sauce pan 2. Lower the heat under the pot so the water drops to more of a simmer-boil rather then a rolling-boil - over heating the mushrooms will lower their effectiveness. 3. Add about 8 to 10 grams of dried mushrooms (about enough to make a single layer across the bottom of the pot). 4. Simmer the mushrooms for 10 to 15 minutes (some people recommend simmering much longer than this, but you must make sure the pot does not boil dry). 5. Taste test the water - if it is bitter the tea is ready - you can simmer longer for stronger tea. 6. Strain into a mug, add water to dilute if too strong and maybe some honey. 7. You can repeat this process (using the same mushrooms over and over again, until they no longer yield bitter water) straining the tea into a mason jar to store it in the refrigerator. After being used you can dry the mushrooms to store them and re-use to make fresh tea later. You can re-use the same mushrooms again and again until they no longer make the water bitter.
