What is Clarivein®? All modern varicose vein treatments involve procedures under local anaesthetic in which the veins are treated from the inside without major surgical incisions – so called endovenous treatments. Many of these endovenous treatment use tiny catheters to treat superficial venous reflux, which it the root cause of varicose veins and related problems such as varicose eczema, phlebitis and leg ulcers. Clarivein® is yet another so called catheter-based endovenous treatment. So what is so special about Clarivein compared to endovenous laser, medical superglue or ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy. Let me explain. Clarivein® really is a new and different class of endovenous treatments. Endovenous laser uses heat energy to close the vein from the inside and foam sclerotherapy uses a prescription medicine to close the vein in a chemical reaction with the vein lining. These treatments use a single mode of action. Clarivein® uses 2 modes of action simultaneously, it is a sort of hybrid endovenous treatment. At the end of the catheter is fine rotating filament which gently removes the delicate cellular lining of the vein and at the same time a prescription medicine called a sclerosant is delivered to the vein. This hybrid dual action is also known as mechano-chemical ablation or MOCA. So, like other modern vein treatments Clarivein® is performed as under local anaesthetic as a walk in walk out treatment and like other endovenous treatments is performed inside the vein through pin pricks. It is very successful in abolishing the reflux that causes varicose veins and other complications. But unlike laser and foam sclerotherapy which act through one mechanism, Clarivein® has 2 mechanisms of action – mechanical and chemical. This makes it very different to other endovenous treatments http://www.theveincarecentre.co.uk/tr...
