At this stage of life, they are fed once every 1 to 1.5 hours depending on how fast their crop, a muscular pouch on the bird's neck right above the chest or sternum, is emptied and deflates. A 1 ml syringe is used to gently feed these babies liquid formula, which originally comes in powder form prior to mixing with hot water until reaching good consistency and subsequent cooling to roughly 38-39oC. At this temperature, the liquid formula should feel slightly warm in the palm of your hands. ***A huge caution here is not to feed them overly warm formula because that would burn their throat and crop.
